Our Strategy

The Department for Child Protection Child and Youth and Engagement Strategy is central to our goal of empowering young people with a care experience to have their voices heard and to support their needs.

The strategy highlights three key areas for the department and its partners to focus on and ensure youth participation in child participation in child protection matters.

We are looking for young people who want to help changes things for children and young people who experience the child protection system.

About the artwork

A young Ngarrindjeri/Adnyamathanha artist, SWL and Yamatji/Noongar artist, Sasha Hill were commissioned to create the official artwork for the DCP Child and Youth Engagement Strategy 2021- 2023.

The artwork represents the voices of children and young people who experience the child protection system: it represents voice, connection and working together so that children and young people are listened to and heard.

The Artist - SWL - I am SWL and I'm a young Ngarrindjeri/Adnyamathanha artist. As I'm still developing a pathway for myself, I'm also creating a future path for young Aboriginal artists and young people in care around me so they can have an option of getting their voice heard. Sasha Hill - My name is Sasha Hill. I have a dual identity: Irish on my mother's side and Aboriginal on my fathers. I identify as a Yamatji/Nyoongar woman from the Central Western Desert. I have been painting since I was a little girl and have been lucky enough to be taught how to paint from some amazing, strong Aboriginal women. My painting style is characterised by dot work, symbols and bright colours. All of which were used in the art piece.
