Legal Notice: The Children and Young People (Safety) Act 2017 remains the current law in effect. The Children and Young People (Safety and Support) Act 2025 has received Royal Assent but has not yet commenced. We are working toward full commencement in 2027.

The Children and Young People (Safety and Support) Act 2025 (CYPSS Act) received Royal Assent on 12 June 2025. This marked the start of an implementation period before the new Act comes into effect on a date to be set by proclamation. Commencement is expected in mid-2027.

Until then, the Children and Young People (Safety) Act 2017 (CYPS Act) remains in place.

The CYPSS Act establishes a foundation for transformational and sustainable change across South Australia’s child protection and family support system.

It strengthens how children, young people, and their families are supported by reflecting community values and expectations, while reinforcing shared responsibility, and supporting collaboration across the service system.
