What is KidSafe Connect?
KidSafe Connect is a long-term program that will improve how family-based carers access information, connect with the Department for Child Protection (DCP), and receive support.
The program is also improving the systems DCP staff use every day, helping reduce duplication, improve information sharing and support better decisions for children and young people.
Many of the systems used today don't connect well with each other. This can mean information is repeated, processes take longer than they should, and valuable time is spent on administration instead of supporting children, young people and families.
KidSafe Connect will deliver improvements over several years. Some changes will happen sooner than others, and we'll continue listening and learning as the program progresses.
What we’re working towards
Through KidSafe Connect, we're working towards:
- easier access to information and support for family-based carers
- practical improvements designed with carers, staff and service providers.
- less paperwork and less time repeating the same information
- better information sharing across the people supporting a child
- more consistent services and ways of working
Our key projects
These are the projects currently most relevant to family-based carers.
We're designing an online portal for family-based carers.
The aim is to provide one trusted place where carers can access information, complete everyday tasks and stay connected with DCP.
We're at the beginning of this work and are talking with carers, staff and service providers to understand what will make the biggest difference. The Carer Portal will be designed with carers from the very beginning.
We're also improving some of the systems DCP staff use every day.
These improvements will help staff record and share information more efficiently, reduce administration and give them more time to support children, young people and carers.
How you can get involved
We want carers to help shape these changes.
As projects progress, there will be opportunities to take part in workshops, surveys and feedback sessions. Your experiences and ideas will help us design services that better meet the needs of family-based carers.
We'll also work closely with Aboriginal carers, families and communities to help ensure these improvements are culturally safe and reflect their experiences.
We'll share opportunities on this page and through existing carer networks, so keep an eye out.
