As if abseiling down a 25-storey building once wasn’t enough, Darian Shephard-Bayly is preparing to relive the moment.

The Department for Child Protection's Acting Chief Executive will be among those next month strapping on the safety gear and making their way down the side of Adelaide’s Intercontinental hotel, to raise money for children’s charity Puddle Jumpers.

He first took part in the Adelaide City Plunge last year, saying the hardest part was taking the first steps over the building’s edge.

“It was very scary and I couldn’t sleep the night before,” he says.

“Once I was over the edge, time stood still for a few moments and I could take in the view. It took a minute or two to descend the 25 storeys and it was a huge rush to make it safely to the bottom.

“While I was still on a high, I committed to be back this year! It’s a great cause so please donate if you can. Every donation supports children in care.”

Event participants can choose from a range of charities to support. Those backing Darian’s bid to help Puddle Jumpers will be donating towards the cost of providing camps, mentoring, food relief, school support and life-changing experiences for children who have experienced trauma, neglect and disadvantage.

Darian is appealing to colleagues, friends and family members to back his charity effort through a donation on The Plunge website.
